What is the purpose?

The purpose of IDEAS Advisory Council Racism and other forms of discrimination cannot and will not be tolerated within any STRIVE Prep location.  The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accountability, and Support (I.D.E.A.S.) Advisory Council was created to examine our organizational practices to support Cultural Awareness within STRIVE Prep.  Our role is also to advise and support our staff in becoming educators that are aware of the implicit and explicit biases that exist within our society and address them to break down barriers that do exist.

Affinity Groups

What is an affinity group?

An affinity group is a designated “safe space,” where everyone in that group shares a particular identity. This identity can be based on race, gender, sexual orientation, language, nationality, physical/mental ability, socio-economic class, family structure, religion, etc. Affinity groups can be a place for marginalized groups in an organization to come together to feel less isolated and more connected. During affinity groups, participants might share and talk about their experiences or focus on working towards a particular mission or goal.\ Driving reasons for affinity groups:

  1. Primarily oriented toward positive change
  2. Focused on providing a safe and supportive place for shared experiences
  3. There to solve a particular issue through strength in numbers
